LONDON–Japan coach Javier Aguirre was among those named as a suspect in a match-fixing probe initiated by Spain’s state prosecutor.

A court in Valencia, Spain, will hear the case, according to the online version of El Pais, a Spanish daily.

The criminal complaint, filed Dec. 15, revolves around a match played in May 2011 in the La Liga between Real Zaragoza and Levante. Aguirre was manager of Real Zaragoza at the time.

Forty-one individuals, including players from both teams as well as then executives at Zaragoza, were named in the complaint, which concerns the final match of the 2010-2011 season. Zaragoza won 2-1 to remain in the top tier of the Spanish league.

Zaragoza is said to have paid 965,000 Barcelona jersey 2015 euros (about 140 million yen, or $1.2 million) to the Levante players to ensure the team came out ahead.

According to the complaint, the club transferred various sums to the bank accounts of Aguirre and Zaragoza players, such as Gabriel “Gabi” Fernandez, who plays for the Spanish national team and is now a Barcelona jacket member of Atletico Madrid.

They then withdrew the amounts from their accounts, and the money was transferred to the Levante players.

Under the Spanish judicial system, if a court accepts a criminal complaint as worthy of further investigation, a preliminary judge will take over the investigation process.

This means Real Madrid jersey 2015 Aguirre could be called to appear before the court. In that event, it could affect preparations by the Japanese men’s national team to defend its Asian Cup title in Australia from January.
